Interpreting the Problem

This problem won’t  have an easy and quick solution. Whatever is done will take at least a few years to plan and implement, and it will have to be maintained throughout decades if a solution is laid out.

Open Workspace

There are 3 major principles that must be followed:

Must be affordable and abide to the cities laws, as it would be impossible to get support for a solution if it is not legal

Must be attractive to all, not just one group, as making art that is not inclusive to all will make it hard to get support

Must be motivating to citizens to keep the town clean, as we want this to limit the amount of littering that happens in Akron

Ideating a Solution

We have come up with 3 solutions that follow our principles. Those solutions were to either build usable sculptures around the city for people to sit and rest, to paint the trashcans and bus stops around the city, and to simply plant more trees and flowers around the city.

However, only one of these solutions fit the best with out principles.

That solution is to plant trees and flowers around the city.

Group Planting a Tree

While all three of our other solutions not only solved the problem of beautifying Akron, but also fit our principles, planting trees was the only one that was fully fit all three. Sculptures would have been a tad too expensive in the context of a solution by a high schooler, and painting trashcans would be repetitive, as that solution has been already implemented .
